About Nyimdzii

Nyimdzii Foundation for Community Learning is an organisation whose mission is to promote the generation and application of knowledge essential to creating societies that are both materially and spiritually prosperous. Amongst our founding tenets is that knowledge—both scientific and religious—is at the heart of progress. At the forefront of promoting this progress should be young people whose immense capacities are principally developed through education and service to humanity. While maintaining a focus on young people, we acknowledge the crucial role that all segments of society, including it and institutions, play in social transformation. The source from which are drawn the numerous principles, concepts, approaches and strategies that guide our efforts and the standard upon which we measure their influence, are the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith.

At the present time, in expressing this vision, our endeavours are focused on implementing and learning about community and school-based educational activities that, beyond enriching academics and morals, empower young people to become protagonist of their own learning—agents “in a constant effort to apply knowledge to effect individual and collective transformation.” And at all times we strive that our efforts to transform society are collaborative, welcoming individuals, communities and institutions as co-collaborators in this process. In doing so, we seek to foster a culture of collective learning, one in which all feel welcomed to offer their share towards this most noble cause—the establishment of a divine civilization.

Our Name and Logo

The name Nyimdzii comes from the Fante language, meaning "knowledge." This reflects the core of our mission--promoting the generation and application of knowledge essential for the material and spiritual advancement of society. Central to our approach is the belief that progress is driven by two complementary sources of knowledge: scientific and religious. These two sources guide our efforts to cultivate a community where both learning and moral develoipment thrive.

Our logo embodies this vision, featuring three Adinkra symbols, which are visual representations of concepts from West Africa wisdom traditions. Each symbol in the logo conveys a foundational principle of our work:

The first symbol represents knowledge and learning, symbolised by the proverb "he who does not know, can know from learning." It underscores the importance of education and the sharing of knowledge as a tool for personal and social growth.

The second symbol emphasises the importance of collective wisdom, expressed by the saying, "one head does not constitute a council." This speaks to the principle of consultation, where individuals gather to share diverse perspectives, enabling a collaborative and unified approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

The third symbol stands for change and renewal, encapsulated in the idea, "I change or transform my character." This reflects a twofold moral purpose--the inner character and the ourward transformation of society, both of which are neccesary for true progress.

Together, these symbols serve as a visual reminder of our commitment to empowering individuals and communities through knowledge, collaboration, and personal growth.
